Our next Lancashire LGBT Walking Group is taking place on Sunday 11th October, which also happens to be National Coming Out Day.
Coming out can mean different things to different people. For some, it can be an important moment of celebration and pride, while for others it may be complicated, something they’re not ready for, or simply not part of their journey.
So, whether you’re out and proud, still figuring things out, or just fancy a Sunday walk with some friendly faces, you’re very welcome to join us. 💚
🥾 About the walk
For October’s walk, we’re returning to a route we last enjoyed in June, starting from Frenchwood Recreation Ground in Preston.
This gentle walk is around 3 miles and will take us over the newly restored Tram Bridge, before following the old tram route through Preston Junction Nature Reserve and back towards Avenham Park.
We’ll pause at a picnic spot along the way, so feel free to bring a packed lunch or snack with you. There’s also the option to finish the walk with a visit to the Pavilion Café in Avenham Park.
♿ Accessibility and what to bring
The route is step-free and follows well-surfaced paths throughout, although there are some short, steep sections.
As we’re heading into autumn, please come dressed for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
When you arrive, don’t forget to sign in with our walk leaders. You’ll be able to spot them in their orange hi-vis vests!

There is free parking at Frenchwood Recreation Ground, and we’ll be meeting at 11am and setting off at 11:15am.
Public transport: The meeting point is around a 20-minute walk from Preston Station and Preston city centre.

National Coming Out Day can be an opportunity to celebrate LGBTQ+ visibility, but there’s never any expectation to share anything about yourself that you don’t want to.
Our walking group is simply a chance to get outdoors, meet other LGBTQ+ people, have a chat and enjoy some time together.
