In two weeks time, on the 26-27th October, Lancashire LGBT will be hosting its 6th residential weekend for trans and gender diverse people at Borwick Hall Carnforth, North Lancashire!

This weekend is truly transformative for members of our trans community. And this year, it means even more to them for this residential to happen, and for it to be supported by you.

Why? Well, let’s take a look at the context. In the last few decades, trans and non-binary people have become the focus of a hostile, and in some cases threatening, campaign which seeks to reverse their rights and to remove them from public life altogether. In the last few years, this campaign has become increasingly ugly and toxic. Unsurprisingly, this has had a direct impact on the mental health of trans and non binary people in the UK, and here in Lancashire.

At Lancashire LGBT, we have noticed and responded to this trend by expanding our support for members of our trans and non-binary community, including our partnership with the Leeds Gender Identity Service and the recent Trans Health Needs Assessment (which will be published early next year). We also thought it important to bring back our Trans Residential, which has changed so many lives in this community over the years.

If you didn’t know, the Trans Residential was first set up by the founders of Lancashire LGBT with the purpose to bring together this particular section of our community, allowing them feel to feel safe in an environment where members could explore their identities and become more comfortable in themselves.

Each residential has been fully funded by us, Lancashire LGBT. And it will be the same this time. However, this time we are inviting our supporters, to consider showing their support and solidarity with the trans community by supporting the residential and donating whatever they can spare in these challenging times.

If you wish to show your support, and contribute toward the cost of hosting and organising the trans residential, donate via our donate page: https://lancslgbt.org.uk/donate/
