Global Link tell us that they have some funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for an exciting new project to create an online LGBT ‘Town Trail’ of Lancaster with links to digital stories….. hopefully created by you! The Trail will link to a national LGBT history online mapping project.
Digital Stories are 1 – 3 minute ‘films’ of a person telling a story from their life, over a moving backdrop of personal photos, and then uploaded to YouTube. You can see some examples at www.globallink.org.uk if you look under Digital Storytelling. Viewers would be able to click on a place (eg a pub) on the Lancaster & Morecambe map and it would take you to the digital story. Digital stories are really fun and empowering to make. And there will be cake and company and a chance to document and celebrate some of Lancaster’s LGBT history.
So, Global Link invite you to get involved if:
- You live or have lived in Lancaster or Morecambe
- You want LGBT histories to be documented
- You are willing to share personal memories and photos to document this history as an online digital story
- You like being creative (but not essential!)
- You want to have some fun
The time commitment is attending 3 or 4 workshops in October – November.
Workshop 1 – Saturday October 31st, 10am – 1pm
‘Finding LGBT Lancaster Stories to share for online LGBT history’
The workshop will use fun storytelling activities to help participants ‘find’ a story related to LGBT life in Lancaster/Morecambe, which you can write up after the workshop. Participants are asked to bring along an object or one or more photos as stimuli for the workshop.
Issues re confidentiality will be discussed throughout e.g. use of names, the choice of story itself and the photos.
Workshop 2 – closed workshop, sorry!
Workshop 3 – Saturday November 14th, 1:30-6pm
Digital Storytelling Part 1 – cakes provided!
At this workshop participants edit their stories, scan their photos, take new photos (e.g. if they don’t have enough or want to not use someone’s face, but a hand instead), storyboard and voice record.
Workshop 4 – Saturday November 28th, 1:30 – 6pm, followed by dinner & screening
Digital Storytelling Part 2 and screening – more cakes plus dinner!
At this workshop participants will complete their films. After dinner at 6pm (we will provide this but will ask for a small donation), we will have a screening at 7pm where all the films will be shown.
February (LGBT History Month) 2016: Launch of Town Trail
The films and town trail will be publicly launched at an event at Lancaster Library.
